The advent of gold teeth originated from black African people in Africa and South Africa. In ancient times, people used gold teeth to help distinguish a free black person from an imprisoned person. Once a slave was free, he/she may get gold teeth to indicate liberation. It was also believed by most people in Ghana that once a Muslim makes a Hajj, he may get gold teeth in order to denote his pilgrimage. In 1990, gold teeth were used by blacks in America for dental reasons. This is because they had little exposure to appropriate medical care. It was an alternative to removing teeth.
