When considering a piece of outdoor furniture it may be difficult to decide if it is indeed an example of modern outdoor furniture. Modern times are relative to whatever time we live in so all previous periods have had their own versions of modern furniture. After pondering this dilemma I finally hit upon a definition that I think I am happy with. Modern outdoor furniture would have to be any kind of furniture that has it’s own unique style different from any styles that have preceded it. A creator of modern outdoor furniture could draw inspiration from other periods but to be qualified as modern the furniture must be distinctly different in appearance. Wood has been used for furniture for quite a while, centuries in fact, yet you can still find modern furniture made out of it. Iron is another example but many fine examples of modern furniture are created from it. If a design requires it there is nothing stopping a craftsman from merging the two in creative and unique ways.
