IRS Phone Number Reviews & Tips
|
The phone book contains a general IRS Phone Number that gets you through to a switchboard. Even their website shows this same general contact number. You are then asked to make so many selections to try and reach the department you need that in most cases you end up back at the main voice-menu again. Then there’s the annoyance of being put through to the wrong department completely and ending up waiting on hold for 25 minutes out of your busy day trying to find your way back to the person you wanted all along. It is still very difficult for everyone to reach the right person you need to speak, in spite of the Internal Revenue Service’s promises to improve their customer service operations. Here’s the IRS phone number: * 1-800-829-1040 (for General IRS Help Line) * 1-866-255-0654 (IRS E-file Help Desk) * Employer Identification Number or EIN : 1-800-829-4933 * Tax Assistance: 1-800-829-1040 * TeleTax for automated refund info: 1-800-829-4477 * 877/829-5500 (IRS live customer assistance for help with forms, publications and applications) * IRS Business Assistance for completing and filing business returns: 1-800-829-4933 * 1-800-829-4059 (IRS Tax Refund Hotline) * Social Security Administration: 1-800-772-1213 * IRS Assistance for the Hearing Impaired with TTY equipment: 1-800-829-4059 * IRS Phone Number to Report Identity Theft: 1-800-908-4490 * Report Tax Fraud: 1-800-829-0433 * 1-866-860-4259 (Tax Preparer Hotline or Tax Practitioner) I hope that one of these might help you find the right IRS department you want without spending forever on hold.
